Here are some questions we can now answer from our trip to Egypt!
Question: Answer:
-Who wore makeup in Egypt and why did they wear it?

In this scroll, you can see the makeup that all of these Egyptians are wearing.

Even men wore makeup!
Men and Women both wore it because they believed it gave them protection of the gods Horus and Ra. The Egyptians also believed that the makeup they wore was magic. Research actually shows that the lead-based makeup they wore actually helped the Egyptians not develop eye infections, and kept them from burning in the sun! Me (Emma) and Elaine where so awestruck from what beautiful makeup they wore…. And we might have just tried some out…….

This is the "Eye Of Horus", as in Horus the god. Egyptian makeup looks a lot like this eye, as Egyptians honored their gods by doing many different things.
-What did they wear as makeup and what was it made from?
Examples:
Ochre is made out of clay that contains iron oxide. You can make ochre a darker color by heating it or letting it dry in the sun. It can be applied either as a liquid or as a paste.
Kohl is perhaps the most famous makeup of ancient Egypt, kohl is a black powder worn about the eyes. It was used for the eyelids as eyeshadow, only sometimes for the bottom lid.
The Egyptians wore a sort of blush made from ochre, henna, perfumes that were made out of vegetable and animal oils and fats (that were then scented), and eye paints that resembled eyeshadow was made of green galena and black galena based kohl.
